چکیده

The surveys of natural gamma-emitting radionuclides in rocks and soils from the Ezine plutonic area were conducted during 2007. Direct dose measurement using a survey meter was carried out simultaneously. The present study, which is part of the survey, analysed the activity concentrations of U, Th and K in granitoid samples from all over the region by HPGe gamma spectrometry. The activity concentrations of Ra ranged from 94 to 637 Bq kg, those of Th ranged from 120 to 601 Bq kgand those of K ranged from 1074 to 1527 Bq kg in the analysed rock samples from different parts of the pluton. To evaluate the radiological hazard of the natural radioactivity in the samples, the absorbed dose rate (D), the annual effective dose rate, the radium equivalent activity (Raeq) and the external (Hex) hazard index were calculated according to the UNSCEAR 2000 report. The thorium-to-uranium concentration ratios were also estimated.

Assessment of natural radioactivity levels for Karadağ Mountain, Turkey

Background:The natural radioactivity levels in soil samples of Karadağ Mountain in central Anatolia region have been determined. Materials and Methods: Analyses on the collected samples were performed to determine gross alpha and beta radioactivity concentrations by using a gas-flow proportional counter and the concentrations of 238U, 232Th and 40K by using a NaI(Tl) scintillation detector. Res...

Assessment of the natural radioactivity and its radiological hazards in some Egyptian rock phosphates

Radioactivity of terrestrial radionuclides Ra, Th and K in phosphate rock samples has been measured using gamma ray spectrometry system with an HPGe detector. The samples showed fairly high mean concentrations, 410±39 Bq.kg of Ra, 7.9±0.95 of Th and 37.6±4 of K. Mean absorbed gamma dose rate of 181.9±20 nGy.h was measured in air. Assessment of radiological hazards was made by calculating radium...

Radiometric Assessment of Farm Soils and Food Crops Grown in Kuru-Jos, Nigeria

Introduction: Human activities, such as mining, result in the elevation of natural ionizing radiation in the environment. Jos-Plateau, Nigeria, including Kuru-Jos has experienced commercial tin mining in the past, and local mining is still being practiced in this area. Therefore, it is important to assess the radiation exposure due to grown crops and the farm soils in ...

Radiological Hazard Assessment of Radionuclides in Sediment and Water Samples of International Meighan Wetland in Arak, Iran

Introduction: There are natural and artificial radioactive nuclei in our environment, as well as in the structure of the living organism. Currently, industrial and municipal pollution has also an impact on increasing the level of radiation. The present study investigated the effect of inlet water from Arak Wastewater Treatment Plant on international Meighan Wetland and...
